Why the colors look softer
The Serenity product page notes that the colors of these checks are muted to meet banking standards for electronic readers and microfilm. Banks scan every check, so a check printer keeps the background light enough for the payee, amount and signature to read cleanly on the image. Expect paler colors than a framed print or a calendar, and look at the product image on the page before you order.
That is also why the checks work at any bank: the art is only a background, and your routing number, account number and check number print in the standard MICR line at the bottom.
