What is blank check stock?

Blank check stock, also sold as check paper or blank laser checks, is a sheet with a printed safety background and stubs, and nothing else. Carousel and Bank Checks Plus put it plainly on every product page: these checks are blank and contain no imprint information. Your software prints the bank name, your name and address, the check number, the payee and amount, and the MICR line with your routing and account numbers.

Both printers say their blank stock works with laser and inkjet printers, is compatible with QuickBooks, Quicken and Microsoft Money, and meets or exceeds American Bankers Association specifications. Because nothing account-specific is printed on it, one supply of blank stock can serve several business accounts.

Formats: top, middle, bottom and 3 per page

Match the format to the check layout your software prints. Carousel sells each format in several background colors, such as blue safety, blue marble, green marble and tan safety.

What you need to print checks on blank stock

  1. Check-printing software that prints your bank details and the MICR line on blank stock.
  2. A laser or inkjet printer. Print a test page on plain paper first and hold it against a blank check to line up the fields.
  3. Your bank’s routing number and your account number, copied from a current check or your bank’s website.
  4. MICR toner if your bank requires it: the routing and account numbers along the bottom are read by bank equipment, so ask your bank before you print them with standard toner.

Store blank stock like cash. Keep it locked away and track the sheets you use.

Choosing the software? Our check printing software guide compares programs that print the MICR line on blank stock, from ezCheckPrinting at $59 one time to Checkeeper at $14.99 a month (checked October 20, 2026).

Blank stock vs. pre-printed checks

Pre-printed laser checks arrive with your bank details and MICR line already on them, so you don’t need special software or toner, but each order works for one account only. Carousel’s pre-printed Blue Safety top laser checks cost $69.50 for 250, against $49.50 for 500 blanks. Our laser checks guide compares pre-printed prices by format.

How to order blank check stock and delivery

  1. Pick the format your software prints: top, middle, bottom, 3 per page or personal-size 3 per page.
  2. Choose the background color and the security level: standard, high security or hologram.
  3. Choose the quantity and delivery method and pay. Blank stock carries no account information, so there is nothing to personalize.

Delivery: Carousel Checks lists Next Day Air (1 to 2 business days), 2nd Day Air (2 to 3), Ground (2 to 5), Trackable (3 to 7), USPS Priority (7 to 10) and Bulk (9 to 18 business days), plus processing time. Need deposit tickets too? See our deposit slips guide.
