Cheapest option

Carousel Checks is the cheapest. It lists the same design codes as Bank Checks Plus with the same 100-check boxes, but it costs $2.74 less for one box of singles and $11.04 less for one box of duplicates. Buying four boxes of singles at Carousel ($92.50) brings the price down to about 23¢ a check. Singles come as four pads of 25 with deposit tickets and a register. Duplicates come as five pads of 20 and leave a carbon copy of each check.

The Checks Unlimited photo option looks cheap at $87.69 for four boxes, but those boxes hold 320 checks rather than 400, so it still costs more per check. See our cheapest checks guide for plain designs and current deals.

Ordering Hawaiian checks with a Hawaii bank

Island designs work with any U.S. checking account, including First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of Hawaii, as well as credit unions and banks on the mainland. A third-party printer only needs your 9-digit routing number, your account number and the check number to start from. Copy all three from the bottom of a check you already have, not from memory.

If you live in Hawaii, check which shipping options checkout offers for your ZIP code before you choose one. Carousel’s delivery table runs from Next Day Air (1–2 business days) to Bulk (9–18 business days) after printing. Addresses outside the contiguous U.S. can take longer than the mainland estimates, so leave yourself a week of spare checks.

How to order

  1. Choose a design above and select singles or duplicates.
  2. Enter your name and address exactly as you want them printed. Many people leave out the street address for privacy.
  3. Copy your routing number, account number and next check number from the bottom of a current check. If you don’t have one, ask your bank, since a wrong digit means the checks won’t clear.
  4. Choose a starting check number higher than your last check so the numbers never repeat.
  5. Pick a delivery speed. Carousel’s options run from Next Day Air (1–2 business days) to Bulk mail (9–18 business days), and EZShield fraud coverage up to $25,000 is optional.

Your bank doesn’t have to approve the design. Banks process checks from Carousel, Bank Checks Plus and Checks Unlimited the same way they process the checks they sell themselves. For more detail, see how to reorder checks.

Use your own photo instead

If no stock design is quite right, Checks Unlimited’s Single Photo Checks print an image you upload across the check: $28.49 for a box of 80 singles or $34.49 for duplicates, falling to $87.69 for four boxes of singles. Standard delivery can take up to 15 business days, and trackable shipping takes 7–11. Use a sharp, well-lit photo with a plain area where the payee and amount lines go. See more ideas on our photo checks page.
