How to order checks from PNC

PNC orders run through Harland Clarke, and PNC can also reorder automatically for you.

  1. Sign on to PNC Online Banking on a computer or mobile browser. PNC says check ordering isn’t available in the PNC Mobile app.
  2. Select Help, then Manage Accounts, then Order Checks and Supplies.
  3. Find the account and select Order Checks and Supplies again. You move to Harland Clarke’s site to choose checks and finish.
  4. Allow 7–10 business days for processing and shipping.

Automatic Check Reorder: after at least one order, you can enroll on the same Order Checks and Supplies page. PNC tracks your cleared checks, orders new ones before it predicts you’ll run out, and deducts any cost from your checking account.

To change the design, address, phone number or other features on PNC-ordered checks, PNC says to visit a branch.

Cheaper option: order PNC-compatible checks online

A PNC account doesn’t require PNC-ordered checks. Any U.S. check printer can print the routing, account and check numbers in the magnetic-ink line at the bottom, and that line is what PNC reads. Checks Unlimited verifies those numbers with bank records before printing.

Automatic reordering is convenient, but it repeats the same checks at the bank’s price. Check that price before you enroll. With a printer you choose the design and quantity, and changing your address doesn’t require a branch visit.

What you need for PNC-compatible checks

  • The PNC routing number from the bottom left of a current PNC check
  • Your PNC checking account number
  • A starting check number above your last PNC check, so the numbers don’t repeat
  • The name, address and phone number you want printed
  • A recent check to copy from (deposit slips can carry different numbers)

Steps to buy more checks for a PNC account

  1. If you’re enrolled in PNC Automatic Check Reorder, decide first whether you still want it, or you may end up with two boxes.
  2. Pick a design and quantity. Singles are the cheapest; duplicates make a carbon copy of each check.
  3. Copy the routing and account numbers from a current PNC check, and choose a starting number above your last one.
  4. Type your name, address and phone number the way you want them printed. Unlike PNC orders, changing them doesn’t take a branch visit. Proofread the preview, choose trackable shipping and pay.

Security features

PNC’s checks come from Harland Clarke. If you use Automatic Check Reorder, watch for the box, because new checks arrive without you placing an order.

Printer checks carry their own protections. Checks Unlimited lists a MicroPrint signature line that turns into dots on a copy, protection against chemical washing and erasing, and a security screen on the reverse. Its SentryShield option costs extra and can be removed. With auto-reorder or a printer order, a box of blank checks arrives by mail, so choose tracking and lock unused checks away.

Delivery time

PNC says to allow 7–10 business days for an order to process and ship.

PNC’s Automatic Check Reorder sends a notification about three months before it predicts you’ll run out, which leaves time to compare. On a printer order, Checks Unlimited says printing takes 2–5 business days, then standard shipping up to 15 business days or trackable 7–11. In-Plant Rush is $6.99. If you’re nearly out, use rush or PNC’s 7–10 business day window.
