How to order checks from M&T Bank
M&T prints its checks through Deluxe Corporation and lists three ways to reorder personal checks:
- Online: place your order directly with Deluxe, M&T’s check printer, through the reorder now link on M&T’s How to Reorder Checks page.
- Phone: call 1-800-724-2440. The Telephone Banking Center answers Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
- Branch: visit any M&T Bank branch.
Have these ready: your routing (transit) number, your checking account number, the next check starting number, and an email address for online orders.
First order: the online and phone process is for reorders only. M&T doesn’t take first-time check orders online, for security reasons. New customers order their first checks at an M&T branch after opening a personal checking account. MyWay Banking accounts don’t come with checks.
Business checks: reorder directly with Deluxe online or at 1-800-328-0304, or ask a Relationship Manager at an M&T branch. Checks late? Call 1-800-724-2440 so M&T can follow up on the order and help reduce the risk of the checks getting into the wrong hands.

M&T Bank routing numbers by state
M&T uses three routing numbers, based on the state where you opened your account. M&T lists these numbers for ordering checks, setting up direct deposit and receiving domestic wires:

Find yours: in M&T Online Banking, select your deposit account on the Account Summary screen and switch from the Recent Activity tab to the Account Info tab. In M&T Mobile Banking, select the account and tap ACCT INFO in the upper right corner. On a check, the routing number is the first number in the bottom-left corner, before your account number. People’s United and Hudson City are now M&T
People’s United: M&T Bank Corporation completed its acquisition of People’s United Financial on April 1, 2022, and People’s United Bank merged into M&T Bank. The combined bank had more than 1,000 branches in 12 states from Maine to Virginia and Washington, D.C., and People’s United’s headquarters in Bridgeport, Connecticut became M&T’s New England regional headquarters. M&T planned to convert the People’s United brand and systems to M&T in the third quarter of 2022.
Hudson City: Hudson City Savings Bank merged into M&T Bank effective November 1, 2015. The deal added 135 branches in New Jersey (97), downstate New York (29) and Fairfield County, Connecticut (9), which ran as Hudson City, a division of M&T Bank, until M&T converted them to its own network.
If your old checks say People’s United or Hudson City, your account is an M&T account now. Order new checks with the routing and account numbers M&T shows under Account Info. Cheaper option: order M&T-compatible checks online
Your checks don’t have to come from M&T. What makes a check work is the routing, account and check numbers printed in magnetic ink along the bottom, so any U.S. check printer can print them. Checks Unlimited verifies each order against your bank’s records before printing.

Checks Unlimited: printing and standard delivery take up to 15 business days after order verification, or 7–11 business days with trackable delivery.
