The three southwest designs

Each design rotates four checks in a box, one image per check, and all three are standard top-tear personal checks with the bank information in the MICR line, so they work with any U.S. checking account. They come in singles or duplicates; duplicates add a carbonless copy under each check.

Design Look Product code Our pick for
Shades of the Southwest Woven-look geometric patterns in turquoise, terracotta, mauve and rose 726 A matching set with labels
Southwest Art One large stylized animal per check on yellow or pale blue 914 The boldest, simplest look
Petroglyphs Faded rock-art figures and spirals on a sandstone background 911 Earth tones with a tan cover

Shades of the Southwest

Checks Unlimited describes Shades of the Southwest checks as popular southwestern colors integrated into classic Native American textile patterns. Each check fills the background with a large woven-look pattern of diamonds and stepped shapes, framed by a patterned band along the top and bottom edges. The four checks differ by color and by a small black silhouette beside the payee line:

  • Turquoise: a turquoise and sand pattern with a flute player.
  • Terracotta: a terracotta and slate-blue pattern with a lizard.
  • Mauve: a mauve and peach pattern with a sitting coyote.
  • Rose: a dusty rose and sand pattern with a steer skull.

The patterns are pale behind the writing lines and darker toward the edges, so the payee line and the amount box stay readable. This is the only one of the three designs with its own matching address labels.

Southwest Art

Checks Unlimited calls Southwest Art checks a classic design that represents the best of southwest art and its desert icons, and lists the four animals: a fish, a lizard, a bison and a bear. Each animal is drawn large in the middle of the check in a flat, stylized shape. The fish and the lizard are coral on a soft yellow background, and the bison and the bear are blue on a pale blue background. A thin turquoise and coral rule runs along the top and bottom of every check. Of the three designs, this one has the least pattern behind the text.

Petroglyphs

Checks Unlimited says its Petroglyphs checks let you discover some of the earliest forms of art, with unique drawings and symbols on each check in the rotation. The background looks like sun-washed sandstone carved with faint figures, animals and spirals. A dark brown symbol sits at the left of each check: a handprint, two different human figures and a horned animal. It is the most muted of the three designs, in tan, rust and brown.

Southwest check prices

Prices checked October 21, 2026, 80 checks per box, handling included:

Design 1 box (80) 2 boxes (160) 4 boxes (320) Duplicates, 1 box
Shades of the Southwest $23.49 $38.99 $72.29 $29.49
Southwest Art $23.49 $38.99 $72.29 $29.49
Petroglyphs $23.49 $38.99 $72.29 $29.49
Blue Classic (plain, for comparison) $23.49 $38.99 $72.29 $29.49

All three southwest designs cost the same as the plain Blue Classic design, so the artwork adds nothing to the price. One box works out to about 29 cents a check and four boxes to about 23 cents, so the 4-box order is the cheaper way to buy. Duplicates cost $29.49 for one box, $48.99 for two and $90.49 for four.

The current Checks Unlimited offer codes are valid through Dec 31, 2026, and only one code works per order: R66Q for two boxes of singles for $4.95 (first-time customers), 355M for $6.99 a box plus free shipping (not for side-tear or desk set checks), and BL5R for buy one, get one free on reorders. Use one if the code applies to your design. The page says to enter the code to apply these offers to any of its check designs. Our Checks Unlimited guide explains which one saves more on your order.

Labels and covers

  • Shades of the Southwest labels: sets of 200 self-sticking return address labels, 2-1/2 by 7/8 inches, $8.99 a set.
  • Tan checkbook cover: $14.99, tan leather with a tan nylon lining, offered as the add-on on the Petroglyphs page.
  • Navy checkbook cover: $14.99, navy leather with a blue nylon lining, offered as the add-on on the Southwest Art page.

How to order southwest checks

  1. Have a current check from the same account in front of you. The account number, routing number and next check number come from it.
  2. Pick singles or duplicates and the number of boxes. Each box holds 80 checks.
  3. Enter your name, address, bank routing number, account number and the starting check number, as the Checks Unlimited how-to-order page asks.
  4. Add the matching labels (Shades of the Southwest), the Tan or Navy cover or a spare register on the same page if you want them.
  5. Proofread the preview, especially the account number, then pick delivery and pay.

The Checks Unlimited FAQ says the routing number you enter gives the printer all the information it needs about your bank, and that standard printing generally takes 2 to 5 business days. The how-to-order page lists the same fields we did above. Our reorder guide walks through each screen.

Shades of the Southwest lists printing and standard untrackable delivery at up to 15 business days and trackable delivery at 7 to 11 business days. Southwest Art and Petroglyphs list one line, printing and standard delivery in up to 15 business days. All three are counted after order verification, and In-Plant Rush, chosen at checkout for $6.99, gets the order ready to ship within 2 business days after verification. SentryShield fraud protection is added to every order for an extra charge that you can remove in the cart.

Every design on this page carries the same three security features as the plain Checks Unlimited checks: chemical protection, erasure protection and a microprint signature line. If you mail checks often, our check washing guide explains how to make them harder to alter.
