What a voucher check is

The voucher is the stub: a detachable section printed or written with the invoice numbers, discounts, deductions or payroll details behind the payment. One stub goes to the payee with the check, and you keep the other for your books. Businesses use voucher checks to pay vendors and employees, because the paperwork travels with the money.

Sage describes its multi-purpose voucher checks the same way: checks with two voucher stubs that give you and the payee a detailed payment record, with an open stub for remittance information or payroll earnings and deduction details.

Laser voucher checks: top or middle

Software prints one of two voucher layouts on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Order the one your program prints:

Both layouts are one-part and cost the same. Styles include Classic Blue, Classic Green, Concordia, Diamonds, Executive Gray, Parchment and Suede, with chemical protection, erasure protection and a microprint signature line on every check.

Manual 3-on-a-page voucher checks

For checks written by hand, Checks Unlimited 3-on-a-page voucher checks offer a choice of 3 voucher styles for paying invoices with discount calculations:

  • V1, General Disbursement: 10 lines for organizing invoices, no discount calculations.
  • V2, Discounts and Deductions: 5 lines.
  • V3, Unlined Discount Calculations.

The check measures 8 1/4 x 3 inches on a 12 15/16 x 9 inch sheet, in Blue Safety or Executive Gray, one-part or duplicate. The sheets fit a 7-ring binder only: the Black Leather 7-Ring Binder costs $42.34, and matching 3-on-a-page deposit slips cost $31.53. Our 3 per page business checks guide covers the format.

Payroll voucher checks

Payroll checks are voucher checks with captions for taxes and deductions. Checks Unlimited sells two 3-on-a-page versions at the same prices as the general voucher checks:

  • Payroll-General Purpose checks: a double-stub format with pre-printed captions for U.S. Income Tax, Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax and State Income Tax, plus 2 extra lines for your own deduction headings.
  • Payroll-Salaried/Hourly checks: a breakdown of earnings and deductions with the same four tax captions plus 7 lines for extra captions.

Both measure 7 1/4 x 3 inches per check and fit a 7-ring binder. Payroll software prints the same details onto laser voucher checks. Our payroll checks guide compares every option.

How to order voucher checks

  1. Decide how you write checks: from software (laser) or by hand (3-on-a-page in a binder).
  2. For laser checks, print a test check to see whether your software puts the check on top or in the middle.
  3. For manual checks, pick a voucher style: V1, V2 or V3, or a payroll version.
  4. Enter the business name, routing number, account number and starting check number. Have one of your current checks at hand; the Checks Unlimited business FAQ says the information MUST match the records on file at your bank.
  5. For a logo, call 1-800-954-5590. Choose delivery and decide whether to keep SentryShield in the cart.

Every Checks Unlimited business product page lists Standard Delivery at 7 to 14 business days and Secure Trackable Delivery at 3 to 6 business days, counted after processing and printing. The business FAQ says standard printing generally takes 2 to 5 business days, and In-Plant Rush, chosen at checkout, cuts processing to 2 business days. SentryShield fraud protection is added to every check order for an extra charge, and you can remove it in the cart. Our check envelopes guide lists double window envelopes for voucher checks, and our cheapest checks and reorder guides cover personal accounts.
