Short answer: Chime does not have a paper checkbook. Chime’s own FAQ says it doesn’t issue personal checkbooks to write checks. Instead, Chime Checkbook lets you mail a check from the app: Chime’s printing partner prints it and mails it to the payee, usually in 3 to 9 business days. If you need checks you write and sign yourself, use a second checking account that issues them, such as Ally Bank (standard checks free) or Capital One 360 (first 50 checks free). Does Chime have checks?
No paper checks. Chime’s FAQ answers the question of whether you can send paper checks with the Chime Checkbook feature, and its fine print says that while Chime doesn’t issue personal checkbooks to write checks, Chime Checkbook lets you send checks to anyone. Chime also explains that it is a financial technology company, not a bank, and that banking services are provided by The Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank, N.A.
So there is no Chime checkbook to order, no reorder page and no box of Chime checks to buy. When a landlord or a utility wants a check, Chime mails one for you.
How Chime Checkbook works
Chime’s help article on sending a check lists two requirements: a Chime Checking Account that has been open for at least 30 days, and an activated Chime Visa Debit Card. If you meet both, a Mail a check option shows up in the Move section of the app. To send a check:
- Tap Move, then Mail a check.
- Tap Send a check and add the recipient information.
- Tap Add Recipient.
- Enter the check amount and tap Next.
- Review the details and tap Send check.
Chime’s check-printing partner prints and mails the check. Checks go anywhere in the 50 states; international delivery is not available.
Limits, timing and cancelling
- Limits: Chime says Checkbook payments are generally limited to $10,000 per payment and $25,000 per month, and your own limits show in the app.
- Cutoff: requests are processed by 8:00 AM MST each business day; later requests go out the next business day.
- Delivery: most checks arrive within 3 to 9 business days, depending on USPS and the destination. Checks cannot be expedited.
- Expiration: a check not cashed within 180 days expires, and the money returns to your Chime Checking Account within 1 to 3 business days.
- Cancelling: call Chime Member Services at (844) 244-6363 before the payee cashes or deposits it. Chime lists no fee to cancel.
When Chime Checkbook is not enough
Chime Checkbook covers the common case: you know who gets paid and where to mail it. It does not help when:
- You need to hand a check to someone in person, such as a contractor, a babysitter or a school office.
- A landlord wants a check in a drop box today, or a payee wants a check with your signature.
- You need a check sooner than 3 to 9 business days, since Checkbook checks cannot be expedited.
Before you mail a check at all, ask the biller about direct debit. Chime’s FAQ says you can set up direct debit payments with billers that offer it by giving them your account and routing number, that direct debits do not place a hold on your funds, and that there are no limits or fees on them. If your balance does not cover the payment, it is declined.
For those, you need a checking account that issues paper checks. Banks print same-day counter checks for their own customers; our counter checks guide covers what they cost.
Where to get a real checkbook
You can keep Chime for direct deposit and open a second checking account just for checks. These accounts include free checks, per each bank’s own pages on October 20, 2026:
- Ally Bank: no charge for standard checks, ordered online or in the app. See our Ally Bank checks guide.
- Capital One 360 Checking: the first 50-check book is free, then $20 for 50 or $25 for 100. See our Capital One checks guide.
- Navy Federal Free Active Duty Checking: free personalized traditional checks for the life of the account, for members who qualify. See our Navy Federal checks guide.
Once that account is open, you can order the free standard checks from the bank or pick a design from a printer. Checks Unlimited prints checks from your bank’s routing number and your account number, starting at $23.49 for 80 checks. Our how to get a checkbook guide lists every route, and our free checks guide compares the banks.

Depositing checks with Chime
Sending and receiving are different features. Chime’s FAQ says mobile check deposit is offered to eligible members, for example after a qualifying direct deposit, so you can deposit a paper check you receive by taking a picture in the app. That has nothing to do with a checkbook: you still cannot write paper checks on Chime.
If you also use a traditional bank account, our reorder guide and cheapest checks guide show how to keep a paper checkbook stocked for less.
