Short answer: high security checks add features that a check washer or a copier cannot fake. At Checks Unlimited the two High Security personal designs, Blue and Parchment, carry a hologram security square that cannot be reproduced, heat-reactive ink and a fraud warning on top of the chemical protection, erasure protection and microprint signature line that every check gets. They cost $28.49 for a box of 80 singles, $34.49 for duplicates, or $87.69 for 4 boxes. That is $5.00 a box more than a plain design. Prices checked October 21, 2026.

What makes a check high security
Every personal check from Checks Unlimited already has three basic protections. Its security pledge page explains them: a MicroPrint signature line that appears as a dotted line when photocopied, chemical protection that shows stains or spots when someone tries to alter the check with chemicals, and erasure protection that shows when the paper is erased. A security screen sits on the back of the check.
High security checks go further. The Checks Unlimited Security Center says its High Security Checks have 7 advanced security features, including chemical protective paper, microprint signature lines, 2 dimensional holographic foil that copiers and scanners cannot reproduce, a security screen and a padlock icon. The product pages add heat-reactive ink and a printed fraud warning. Those extra layers matter most for checks you mail, because check washing starts with a stolen envelope. Our check washing guide shows how thieves wash a check and what stops them.
Security features compared
This table lines up what you get on a standard Checks Unlimited design such as Safety checks and on the two High Security designs, from the product pages on October 21, 2026:
| Feature | What it does | Standard design | High Security |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microprint signature line | Turns into a dotted line on a photocopy | Yes | Yes |
| Chemical protection | Stains or spots appear if ink is chemically removed | Yes | Yes |
| Erasure protection | Shows when the paper is erased | Yes | Yes |
| Hologram security square | Reflective foil that cannot be reproduced | No | Yes |
| Heat-reactive ink | Changes when warmed by a finger; a photocopy does not | No | Yes |
| Fraud warning | Printed notice that deters altering | No | Yes |
| Padlock icon | Marks the check as one with security features | No | Yes |
A standard check is fine for checks you hand to someone in person. Pick high security when checks go in the mail, when you write large amounts, or when your account has been hit by fraud before.
High security check prices
Both High Security designs sit in the same price tier as photo checks. Prices are per box of 80 checks and include handling fees (October 21, 2026):
| Checks Unlimited design | 1 box | 2 boxes | 4 boxes | Per check at 4 boxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High Security Blue, singles | $28.49 | $49.59 | $87.69 | about 27 cents |
| High Security Blue, duplicates | $34.49 | $59.79 | $106.19 | about 33 cents |
| High Security Parchment, singles | $28.49 | $49.59 | $87.69 | about 27 cents |
| Safety (standard features), singles | $23.49 | $38.99 | $72.29 | about 23 cents |
| Blue Classic (standard features), singles | $23.49 | $38.99 | $72.29 | about 23 cents |
At 4 boxes the upgrade costs $87.69 against $72.29, or $15.40 for 320 checks, which is under 5 cents a check. Duplicates add a carbonless copy of every check you write, so you keep a record of the payee and amount.
On October 21, 2026 the Checks Unlimited Special Offers page listed two codes, and only one code works per order: 8FJD for a free 4th box of checks with a 4-box order, and KQTG for up to 30% off 2 boxes or up to 35% off 4 boxes. Our Checks Unlimited guide explains which one saves more on your order.

Blue or Parchment
- High Security Blue checks: a sophisticated blue design in a top-tear format. Checks Unlimited suggests Blue Classic labels ($8.99 for 200), the Navy checkbook cover ($14.99) and a check register ($3.49).
- High Security Parchment checks: a classic parchment design with a light, neutral color, for a traditional look. Parchment labels ($8.99) and the check register ($3.49) are the suggested add-ons.
Both designs come as singles or duplicates, 80 checks per box. Want a picture on your checks instead? Photo checks cost the same $28.49 a box. Our classic checks guide shows the other plain designs.
SentryShield and other protection
Checks Unlimited adds SentryShield to check orders for an extra charge, and you can remove it in the cart. The Security Center says the SentryShield Check Fraud Protection Program delivers an advancement of funds up to $25,000, generally faster than a bank, in the event of forged signatures, forged endorsements and altered checks. The plan pays after fraud happens; the check features above make the fraud harder in the first place.
Three cheap habits close the remaining gaps:
- Write with a gel security pen. Our check writing pen guide covers the uni Super Ink pen that resists washing.
- Black out account details on old statements with the Guard Your ID stamp ($14.03), a roller that covers text with characters that make it impossible to read.
- Mail checks inside the post office, not from a flag-up mailbox, and use security envelopes. Our check envelopes guide lists sizes and prices.
High security checks for a business
Businesses get a bigger set of options on the Checks Unlimited business site: High Security 3-on-a-page checks from $71.26 for 300, and High Security laser checks for QuickBooks from $120.90 for 500. Those carry a reflective hologram hot stamped into the check stock, heat-sensitive ink, chemically sensitive paper and a high resolution warning band. Our high security business checks guide compares every format and price.
Other places to buy secure checks
Banks and other printers sell secure checks too. On October 21, 2026 the Intuit QuickBooks Checks and Supplies store listed Secure Plus Personal Checks starting at $45.79 for 1 box of 120 checks. Intuit says they use chemically reactive paper, are printed at a U.S. Treasury-approved facility, come as five booklets per box and are 2-part carbonless duplicates. That works out to about 38 cents a check, against about 43 cents for Checks Unlimited High Security duplicates at 1 box. Intuit’s personal checks have no hologram listed; the Checks Unlimited designs do.
Your own bank sells checks as well, often with fewer design choices. Our cheapest checks guide compares printers by price per check, and our check companies guide explains who prints for which bank.
How to order high security checks
- Open the High Security Blue or High Security Parchment page and choose singles or duplicates.
- Enter your last name, email address, ZIP code, check starting number, routing number and account number, as the Checks Unlimited how-to-order page asks. The routing number tells the printer which bank the checks draw on.
- Start the new box after the last check number you used, so numbers never repeat.
- Proofread the preview. Every digit of the account number has to match your bank records.
- Enter one offer code, choose delivery and decide whether to keep SentryShield in the cart.
Checks Unlimited lists printing and standard untrackable delivery at up to 15 business days and printing with standard trackable delivery at 7 to 11 business days, both counted after order verification. In-Plant Rush costs $6.99 and gets the order processed and ready to ship within 2 business days after verification. Prices include handling fees, and SentryShield fraud protection is added to every order for an extra charge that you can remove in the cart. Our reorder guide walks through the same screens.
